Jilin University, a national key university, originated in 1946 located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province. It was listed in 1984 as one of the 22 universities allowed permission to admit postgraduates and in 2004 it came under the direct administration of education of China.
For building world-class universities, Jilin university was granted in 2017 in the Double World-class Initiative. Amalgamating Jilin University, in 2000, with former Jilin University of technology, former Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, former Changchun University of Science and Technology, former Changchun Institute of Post and Telecommunications from the present Jilin University. Also, four years later in 2004, the former University of Military Logistics merged.
