Jiangnan University dates back to 1902, when its predecessor, San Jiang Normal School, opened its doors for the first time. Jiangnan University began its independent existence in 1958 as the Wuxi Institute of Light Industry, which later amalgamated with two other institutions in 2001 and was renamed by the Ministry of Education as Jiangnan University.
The institution has 3,343 staff and academic members, 20,153 full-time undergraduates, 8,940 postgraduates, and more than 1,285 overseas students on its 208-hectare campus.
